Sometimes it is difficult to be obedient when we don’t understand why we are being told to do something. Whether we obey someone or not in that kind of situation will probably depend on whether the person giving the instruction is trustworthy or not.

Abraham had been obedient to the call of God, but had failed on a number of occasions to trust Him completely. His understanding of what it meant to trust God despite difficult circumstances grew through his experiences.
This week we will see just how much Abraham had grown as he faced the supreme test of faith.

God tests Abraham’s faith by asking him to sacrifice Isaac. Abraham shows his trust in the promises of God by obeying and God provides a substitute for Isaac.

Picture Disc: Print part 1 onto paper (one copy for each child), and part 2 onto paper (one copy for every two children). You will also require one split pin paper fastener per child. Fold part 2 outwards along the dotted line and cut both circles out at once. Cut away the shaded block on part 1. The children colour the pictures. Help them attach the circle behind the main picture with a paper fastener as marked. Show them how to turn the circle to see the ram take Isaac’s place.
