Dear parents,

This week we will start a new series going through the life of Abraham.

Text:Genesis 11:27 – 12:9
Big Idea:Despite the whole world proudly rebelling against God, he makes a great promise to Abraham. Abraham believes God and does what he says.

Just as God chose Noah to be the new father of the human race after the judgment by the flood, he now chooses Abraham (Abram) after the judgment at Babel.  He chose Abraham despite the fact that he and his family were worshipping false gods! (Joshua 24:2-3)

Through Abraham, God will begin to fulfil his plan to redeem a fallen world.  This plan will find its fulfilment in the gospel – God’s way of blessing people from all nations through the offspring of one man.

God makes a threefold promise to Abraham which includes land, descendants and blessing.  In this lesson we will learn that we can trust our gracious God and obey him because he keeps his promises.

 

For copyright reasons, the activity sheets can be provided only while the lessons are in progress, so that only those who need them can get them, and are no longer available.

Here are a couple of activities that the children can do before or after class.  Please help the children to do one of these:
 
Print Activity A (you will need just one per three children).  Help the children to cut out the figures and the holes for the fingers to fit through.  The children decorate Abraham and put their fingers through the holes to give him legs!   They can re-enact the story by moving around the room with their models.  They can stop at the various points and see if they can remember what happened at each point in the journey..
 
Print Activity B and cut out the small pictures.  The children paste the pictures in the right places following the dotted outlines on the map.  They glue Abraham’s front and back together and fold out the tabs so that he stands.  They colour the map and use the model of Abraham to retrace his journey following the numbers.  Be sure they don’t forget to end at the small tent numbered five.
